This was done to enhance that feeling if isolation. There are only two ways in which Isaac makes sound in Dead Space 1. They knew that their game was at its core a story of isolation and vulnerability. I mean, what do we think? That Visceral wanted to give him voice and a character, they just didn't have money or time? One thing that made Dead Space so great was that every element of it was put there deliberately. It's surprising to me how many people (in my opinion, obviously) seem to fundamentally misunderstand one of the more brilliant aspects of it. It's one of those games that lodged itself deep into my identity the moment I saw it, living rent-free in my brain for nigh on a decade. I've been seeing a lot of recurring sentiment on this sub that Gunner Wright should return for the Dead Space Remake, and that they should make Isaac be chatty and show his face just like he did in Dead Space 2.
